Slice of Life: Take-Away Pizza Task

Image
To gain a footing in Digital Image Techniques and working to briefs, we were given a task to create branding for a Pizza Take-Away establishment called 'Slice of life'. Here is the presentation of the process and outcomes for the brief:

Booklet Colour Scheme Development

Red and Black: After selecting my final layout design, I began looking at colour. In my first design, I used the 'I Love New York' logo as inspiration using the same shade of red as the heart. From here, I created tint swatches of the colour at 75%, 50% and 25%, giving a graduation of tones that I could use together with the black text. I decided to use minimal elements of other tones in this design, by using a grey line beneath the subtitle. I found the original red too vibrant for the block of colour, using the second shade down. This was still bold enough to make the white text stand out. As the photograph was already slightly translucent it allowed some of the red to come through behind, giving it a tinted effect. I used the bolder red for the subtitle and the drop cap. For the water mark effect I used the second boldest red at a 15% opacity. Orange and Blue: Referring to a colour wheel, I wanted to experiment with complimentary colours. I chose orang...

Design development using research and existing design

Image
Using my previous design alongside my booklet design research, I decided to expand on my grid design with more interesting features. Front Page: Keeping the overall design the same, I chose to put the 'TYPE' feature on a 25 degree angle with the grey box following the same line. Page 2 and 3: I wanted to use the contents and introduction pages to be more creative with the design as they have less content on each page. Using some of my inspiration, I made the contents page numbers oversized and mixed the fonts using the specified typefaces. I again wanted to put both pages on an angle making sure they both follow the same -25 degrees. I rearranged the original introduction page with the R design elements set in a perpendicular line to the angle of the body copy. I decided to use grey lines to add to the aesthetic and accentuate the angle of the text. It also acts as a separator from the title and body copy. Page 3 and 4: When looking at my original des...

Developed Design using the Grid Design

Image
Using my first grid design, I placed my body copy and design elements and arranged my developed design idea. I kept the design greyscale to see the design without the interference of colour, which will allow me to experiment with colour schemes as my next step. Front cover: For the cover I tried to keep the design simple just using the typefaces to add the aesthetic appeal. I also chose a simple title "Type: Behind The Face" as a play on words but still explaining the purpose of the booklet. I used my four typefaces to spell the word TYPE and using contrasting colours to dissect the characters. Page 1 and 2: The next pages in the booklet are contents page and introduction. I chose to keep the contents quite minimalistic in design, using just the listed pages and a decorative banner featuring the typefaces. I decided to keep the body text and titles simple using character stylesheets. I chose to use Avenir Next Regular in various point sizes to keep continuity t...
