Booklet Colour Development
As a result of my initial colour scheme experimentation, I decided to move forward with the pink and grey design.
Front Page:
I have kept the design for the front page very simple, keeping the white to contrast with the pink and emphasise the division in the letters.
Pages 1 and 2:
I decided to use the grey aspect of the colour scheme on the contents page numbers, using different levels of black to create a gradient effect, leading the eye across the page. I chose to highlight the page with pink in the lines leading from the numbers to the page headings and the contents title itself. I kept the adjoining line across the pages as a grey, to highlight the pink title. On the right side, I used the pink in different tints as backgrounds for the letter design details, alternating them to add interest. Like the contents page, I chose to use the pink for the title to separate it from the body copy.
Pages 3 and 4:
I chose to adjust my original pink colour scheme design from my colour experimentation, instead following the layout for the red design. Thus, I used the pink as the main focus on the left page using it as the background for the quote and as contrast to the white sub-heading and 'B' element. I have also used coloured images for the design to give a true representation of the type uses in the industry in upcoming pages. Like the previous pages, I kept the title in pink and the underline in grey. I also used the pink for the drop cap and the water mark effect. However, in print the writing in front is less clear, therefore, I may change that feature to a pale grey.
Pages 5 and 6:
I chose to keep these pages predominantly white to not detract from the more interesting diagonal grid design. I used the pink as a highlight for the title, dotted line annotations and the alphabet watermark effect in the top left corner. This gives a pop of colour and contrast to the black text and grey lines. On the opposite page I employed the same design choices, with the title directed with pink where an annotation is associated and the annotations connected with grey lines in alternating tones.
Pages 7 and 8:
Again, I have kept these pages fairly white with pops of pink in the title and question mark watermark effect. I also used grey lines on the top and bottom of the page to keep the colour scheme continuous.
Back Page:
On the back page, I have used the pink to continue the cover design and contrasted the 'type society' in white.
I like that the pink and grey colour scheme gives the booklet a clean and contrasting aesthetic with enough colour to attract attention but also not distract and overwhelm the eye. In my final development I will refine the design and print proof images and prototypes to be able to finalise the design.
